It's that time of year when you just want to work in your yard....NOT! Although today we did because it was overcast and very cool weather. We bought some mulch (not nearly enough...we'll be making several trips), flowers, and potting soil. Yes, I finally planted some annuals and perennials in my pots on my front porch. I'm also going to spray paint a box planter and try to find some sort of full shade flowering shrub to go there. I'm thinking of getting a camellia, so if you have any thoughts on that, let me know. We also borrowed a shovel and Dave split the 4 HUGE daylillies in the front bed. They were ridiculous, so much so that I don't think they were going to bloom this year. He didn't even split them as much as they could have been and they still yielded 17 (!) more. We gave a few away and replanted the rest in the same bed and a few around the mailbox. I'm hoping that the original bed becomes a beautiful daylily oasis in the next couple of years. We have also trimmed shrubs in the last few weeks and have started having the grass sprayed for weeds. We just couldn't get them under control. On the upside, the yard is really looking good now. There is still more to do in the next couple of weeks though. We have a couple of diseased azaleas that need to be transplanted and more mulch to put down. I have also decided to repaint our front door, so I need to pick some non-humid days to do that. All in all, we're making progress and I hope it can continue! I'll be sure to post some pictures when I complete the front door and the daylillies bloom (if they do this year).
